Prairie Malting Plant

Kiln Control Upgrade for Two Malthouses

Two Flexi malthouses were running on obsolete Honeywell controllers and PLC-5 processors with 1771 I/O, and the plant could not stop production for the conversion.

Celco walked the site, wrote a functional specification of the kilning process with plant staff, and built a risk analysis and manual operations checklist. New ControlLogix processors and current I/O replaced the old hardware, and the existing iFIX SCADA was modified to add a recipe system.

The first malthouse was converted and reviewed before the second, while the plant ran in manual mode. Both kilns now have better reliability, clearer operator visibility and more flexible recipe programming.
